Parking at St John's

Let's acknowledge that this is a tricky problem that will never have a solution that satisfies everyone.  The reality is that there are not enough parking spots for everyone.  There is work being done to open up the spot on Elgin that is currently barred by the street sign, eventually giving us one more spot.  We have therefore developed a policy to coordinate the use of the on-site parking.

Daytime, Monday - Friday

On the Somerset Street side there four parking spots.  Two are "open" spots, first come first served for volunteers.  Note that the spot under the Rector's office window is often filled with snow during the winter months.  The Well and VirtuCar spots are never to be used during the day.

On the Elgin Street side the Community Shop has two spots.  As the shop is open Monday - Saturday, these spots are generally unavailable during the day.

Please note - if you are parking as a volunteer during the day, please get a sign from the church office to be posted on your windshield.  This sign is only good for the day that it is issued.

Evenings (after 5:00 p.m.) and weekends

The only spot that is always off-limits is the VirtuCar spot.  The Well does not use its spot evenings or weekends and the Community Shop spots are available evenings and Sundays.

Please note - because we are downtown where parking is at a premium, these spots are basically first-come, first-served.  The parish does not have the "manpower" to sit on the spots in the evenings so that they can be available for parishioners.

Reimbursement of Paid Parking

The Parish recognizes that there is often not enough parking for the volunteers who do such wonderful work in the church building.  If you would like to be reimbursed for your parking, simply leave your receipt at the church office and the Parish Administrator will look after it.
