Progress Report on the Renovations June 20, 2005
By the time that you read this, M.P. Lundy, Construction Managers for the
renovation project, will have been working for seven weeks. Progress on
the work has been very satisfactory, with the crypt area moving ahead on
schedule.
Presently, all the major excavation of the crypt has been completed, which
has allowed the installation of the wood beam reinforcement and the new
steel columns. Concrete retaining wall work is substantially done and the
concrete floor is expected to be completed during the second week of July.
In the existing basement area, central electrical equipment is being
installed which will allow the installation of electrical distribution
systems during July. New boilers have been ordered and are expected to be
installed in mid August.
In The Well area, the under-floor drainage system serving the kitchen and
the new washrooms and showers has been completed, allowing the start of
partitions and drywall.
The firm of T. Harris Environmental Management Inc has been re-engaged to
do a full investigation of the facilities to ensure that no mould is
present in any of the areas exposed following the demolition work. This
investigative work will be completed in early July.
It's encouraging to report that up to the present there have been no
"surprises" and therefore the cost of the work is staying within budget
estimates. We are working with M.P. Lundy to see if a firm price contract
can be established for the balance of the work. This will go a long way to
ensuring that all the work will completed within approved budgets.
