St John's is known as
a different kind of church.
We think that's true
Why don't you judge for yourself.
"... what does the Lord require of you ..."
but to do justice,
and to love kindness
and to walk humbly with our God
Maybe you...
. . . have never been to church?
St John's is open-minded and open-hearted:
- is welcoming and friendly;
- thrives on innovative worship;
- teaches and lives the Christian faith;
- delights in fine music;
- has an enthusiastic choir;
- worships in a beautiful setting.
. . . haven't been to church in years?
You may be pleasantly surprised by our:
- new worship books;
- women priests;
- inclusive language;
- opportunities to offer leadership.
...are looking for a new church?
We can, of course, recommend St John's! We're mostly Anglicans, but our members come from several other religious backgrounds. We're a multi-racial, happy mix: singles, families with children, gays and lesbians, refugees.
May be you...
... felt excluded in your previous church experience?
Unfortunately, that's too common. We are very aware that people often feel excluded. We try hard to make every one feel included.
- We affirm an "open-door" policy.
- Our building is wheel-chair accessible.
- We proudly consider ourselves to be a feminist church.
- Gays and lesbians are not only welcome, they play an integral role in the life of our parish.
... were hurt by past church experience?
Again, and sadly, you're not alone. Many of us at St John's have similar painful memories.
- We're committed to healing and reconciliation.
- We're committed to making church different.
May be you...
... are searching for more meaning in your life?
This is probably true of most of us at St John's.
- Many of us have found meaning by participating in a variety of activities scheduled throughout the year.
- We learn together through our worship, ministry, in talking with each other, and, more formally, in small groups.
... are seeking spiritual direction and help?
- St John's offers a rich program of prayer ministries.
- Private counseling is always available.
- Study groups meet regularly.
- Il y a des services pastoraux en français
... are seeking community?
We celebrate joys, and offer help in times of trouble. St. John's is, in a word, caring.
Do you want to make the world a better place?
- We practice our faith up front.
- We reach into the local neighborhood, and the global community.
We take social justice seriously. For example:
- We are passionate advocates for causes we believe in.
- We provide financial aid to causes we believe in.
- We house a women's and children's day care program.
- We support people released from prison.
- We run a "nearly new" shop.
- We assist refugees from around the world.
Looking to Volunteer? There are more than 60 ways ...
- visiting the sick;
- working with a refugee family;
- being part of a prayer chain;
- ringing bells;
- participating in a support group;
- weed the garden; and many more...
