Polychronia and Announcements

When the Polychronia was added at the end of our Sunday worship a few years ago, few could have imagined how many wonderful experiences of blessing we have shared with each other. Over time the Polychronia has grown from one or two events to its current, popular form.

The purpose of the Polychronia is to give parishioners a time to share the joyful occasions in their lives. We intercessory prayers where we pray for the difficult things, and we have announcement time and the pew bulletin for general news. We would like to go back to the original purpose of the Polychronia, and put general announcements back in their place.

If you have an announcement for the parish bulletin, please send it to the parish office by e-mail (office@stjohnsottawa.ca) or by telephone (613-232-4500) by Wednesday noon. The bulletin is prepared Wednesday afternoons.

If you wish an announcement to be made from the chancel steps at the end of the service (just prior to the Polychronia), please write the details on a piece of paper and give them to the priest during the week, or on Sunday morning prior to the service.

If you would like to ask for prayers for a particular need in your life or for someone you care about, please call the church office and ask that the name be placed on the prayer list. Should such a prayer need arise just before the Sunday service, please write it on a piece of paper and give it to either the duty warden or the intercessor. (Their names can be found on the last page of the bulletin).

Our former practice of announcing hymn numbers and page numbers was geared toward helping newcomers. As we attempt to remove "stage instructions" from the liturgy, please keep an eye out for people around you who may need a hand know where we are in the service - simply introduce yourself, and offer to help.
